HOI POLLOI ESTD. 2019

Hoi Polloi opened as part of the new Nygaardsplassen, award winning design and architecture by MAD architects, you’ll find hoi polloi, a natural wine and sake bar in the southern sea side town of Fredrikstad. A vin-o-kaya. The interior style is cross between the Japanese style and brut, minimalistic Scandinavian style. Mixed in is original artwork by Arne Lindaas (who had a strong connection to Fredrikstad starting the arts and crafts school Pluss in the 60’s) Herman Hebler (from Fredrikstad and graphic print pioneer) and Japanese artis Kumi Sügai. Part of the look is also the Beolab 5000 speakers by Bang & Olufsen, design classics from the 80’s, operating as our main sound system. We have a small kitchen and do Yaktori evenings, firing up the konro grill and serving small dishes like skewers with grilled chicken hearts, liver and mushroom paired with natural sake and wine. In season we serve fresh oysters from the Hvaler islands, just a stone throw away. In the summer the whole piazza is buzzing with life. Old, young and children are enjoying the welcoming space and the warm feeling the rustic bricks add to the atmosphere.
